Basil, also known as southern mint, or fragrant basil, is a herbaceous spice plant, belonging to the Labiatae family similar to basil, and has the scientific name Mnetha arvensis (L) var. They are distributed throughout Asia and Northeast Europe. In Vietnam, they are a specialty of Lang village, Dong Da district, Hanoi, so they also have the name, although less commonly, basil.
The tree usually grows low into a bush, the tallest tree about 40 cm. The trunk has purple color. The leaves are light green, slightly wrinkled, grow opposite each other, have a serrated edge, covered with a layer of hair on the leaf surface. The leaves have the shape of purd, pointed, with a characteristic and gentle aroma. Basil flowers are light purple and grow in the leaf axils.
